Sleep-away camps are summer camps where the kids will sleep on the campgrounds. Some of them might be in your own hometown, while others require traveling. If you are currently trying to decide on a good camp for your kids, this top list will absolutely help!
River Way Ranch Camp
If you want to send your child to summer camp in California, you might want to consider the River Way Ranch Camp in Sanger, California. This is for boys and girls between 7 and 16 years old.
There are a lot of different activities, many of which occur outdoors. Some of the favorites of recent campers are archery and rifle training, soccer, horseback riding, and martial arts. There are also more creative activities like photography and digital graphics.
Cheley Colorado Camp
The Cheley Colorado summer camp was originally founded in 1921 and continues to be one of the most popular camps in the nation. This camp is located in the mountains of Colorado, where there are rocks for climbing, trails for hiking, and nature for exploring.
There are different groups at the camp, from younger children to teenagers. Some fun activities include river rafting, backpacking, arts and crafts, and mountain biking.
Camp Killooeet
Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Green Mountain National Forest in Hancock, Vermont at the Camp Killooleet, founded in 1927. This camp is so popular that many kids want to return every summer to have fun with their friends and have new experiences.
Children will be situated in small cabins around the 300 acres with a lake view. They will go horseback riding, play basketball and soccer, and even learn wind surfing. There are also performing arts, dances, and music to enjoy at the summer camp.
Southwoods Camp
The Southwoods camp is a fun summer camp located in Lake Paradox, New York. There are 25 cabins available for kids and young teens, with a hockey rink, basketball, and a fun climbing wall.
There is a nature center to enjoy and some unique activities like golfing and wakeboarding. This camp dates back to 1914, when it was originally known as Camp Woodmere and was a retreat only for girls. It has since changed to accept boys and girls of varying ages.
Camp Moosilauke
Another east coast summer camp is Camp Moosilauke in Orford, New Hampshire. This is the oldest camp on the list, having been founded in 1904.
A lot of the activities take place outdoors, particularly water sports like wake-boarding, swimming, and wind surfing. Soccer, tennis, and basketball is also included in the camp.
When you are choosing a sleep-away camp, look closely at the details of the camp, such as the individual activities, types of meals, and how many kids will share the different cabins. This can help you decide which of the camps is best for your kids based on their individual needs.
