Good day friends! I hope you enjoyed last weeks challenge. Our family filled a bag of food for our church’s food drive and donated that food for last weeks challenge. My hope is that the challenges bring us closer as a family and community.
So that brings us to week #2, and this week is something that is very dear to my heart. Veterans Day! This weeks challenge will be easy, but it can also teach our children about sacrifice and respect of those who have protected our country.
While you are out this week see if you can find a veteran out in public, some wear hats or vests sharing where they served. Buy their lunch, dinner, or a cup of coffee. My family is purchasing a gift card and handing it out to a veteran we see this week.
I saw a veteran in Wal-Mart and made it a point to shake his hand and thank him for his service. He told me he really appreciated that, and that this guester made his day. I got emotional and I wasn’t expecting that, but there is something about looking someone in their eyes and thanking them. It not only blessed him, but me as well. This is what this project is all about. I am so excited that the next veteran I see this week I can bless him with a gift card as well.
Teach your children about veterans and who they are. Tell them of the many sacrifices that those veterans and their families have made, as well the loss that many have experienced. Start an open conversation and ask your kids if they have any questions, I’m sure they will.
So go bless a veteran this week! Click a picture of your kids with them, if they don’t mind, and post it in the Facebook group. I can’t wait to see the pictures!
